Breakthrough Launched
9th Nov 2011
November saw the launch of UAK’s new Breakthrough cohort, with students and their parents being invited to a special afternoon to explain what Breakthrough is all about.
The students have been selected because of their potential to achieve 5 A*-C grades in the summer exams, if given a little extra encouragement. The Breakthrough programme will engage them in extra classes, i-learning, revision classes, one-to-one support and provide useful resources. Parents also need to be on-board so the afternoon was also about helping them to know how to help their child and started with an exercise to explore what the students future aspirations were. We had budding: accountants, electricians, software designers, caterers and business men, all jobs that require a minimum of 5 A*-C GCSE’s including Maths and English. This fact surprised many and struck home to the students just how important Maths and English are, even if it’s not an obvious element of the job they want to do.
The deal isn’t all one sided however, the selected students will have to match the Academy’s commitment to them and Breakthrough with lots of extra work, dedication and commitment. So we wish them well.
