Celebrations Abound for Reading and Poetry
29th Mar 2011
A massive 318 books, donated by staff, friends and students, were given away in the "Give a Book a Home" event. The give away created a real buzz with students from year 7 to 6th form taking books home to either read to younger siblings or for themselves.
The ‘P Factor’ was launched to coincide with World Poetry Day and saw students queuing to hear ‘Sammy So Dreary’ introduce the judges ‘Cheryl Coleridge’, ‘Danni Monotone’ and ‘Simon Chaucer’ who then passed judgement on the contestants. The X Factor style performances of Poetry were undertaken by staff, with Mrs McCarthy, Academy Principal, making a guest appearance to read Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll. The live audience of students voted Mrs Smith, Head of Foundation, as the winner with her ‘Pirate Performance’!
